Annual VisitsRegular check-ups are the cornerstone of long-term pet health. Our veterinarians and staff consider each visit an opportunity to partner with you to keep your pet happy and healthy. These visits include a comprehensive physical examination, vaccinations, and screenings for common diseases. By catching potential issues early, we can work together to maintain your pet’s optimal health and address any concerns promptly

Spay/NeuterDoug Fir Veterinary Care typically recommends spaying or neutering at six months of age to both reduce the risk of health problems and to prevent unwanted pregnancies. There are, of course, exceptions to that rule and our veterinarians will have an open discussion with you to decide on the best time to spay or neuter your particular pet.

ImmunizationsMany of the diseases that can affect dogs and cats are preventable through proper pet vaccinations. Let the knowledgeable team at Doug Fir Veterinary Care help you set up an appropriate vaccination schedule for your dog or cat to keep them healthy. Alternatively, we also offer vaccine titers for some (but not all) recommended vaccines.

DiagnosticsOur state-of-the-art in-house diagnostic capabilities allow us to provide rapid, accurate answers when your pet needs them most. With advanced laboratory equipment and imaging technology right here in our facility, we can perform complete blood work, urinalysis, digital radiography, and ultrasound examinations without the delays of sending samples to outside labs.
Pre Anesthesia Policy
Most animals (just like humans) require a fast from food before general anesthesia. This is because it is not uncommon for anesthesia to result in nausea or vomiting, and if a patient is sedated the risk of aspiration into the lungs is substantial. We ask that you not feed your pet after 8pm prior to an 8am check-in for anesthesia. For most, this means you will feed your pet the evening meal and then skip breakfast before check-in.
Allowing them to drink normal amounts of water is OK. If your pet is taking medication, please ask if it should be given before coming in or brought with you to the clinic. As always, if you are not sure what to do or have further questions, please call us prior to your scheduled appointment. And PLEASE, if you accidentally feed your pet the morning of surgery, let us know. If we cancel the procedure, please rest assured that it is your pet’s well-being that we are concerned about and we will reschedule to keep them safe.
